Everyone in the US has a stake in improving financial literacy and retirement planning.
Inadequate retirement planning by some individuals will cost everyone! It is an example of the “free rider dilemma”. Citizens of the USA enjoy a “safety net system” that provides essential housing, health and food services to those unable to provide them for themselves-Food Stamps, Aid for Dependent Children, Medicaid, Workman’s Compensation, Disability Income, etc.
These safety nets make it hard to motivate those who are not thinking about their future. With the safety net system, anyone approaching an income will be taxed to pay for government-provided benefits. The result is a national retirement deficit will take something out of the wallets of all.
This means that everyone in the US has a stake in improving financial literacy and retirement planning.
Retirement Planning Risks
No retirement plan is perfect; all plans require modification (fine-tuning) during their life. Changes occur over the years:
• Individual’s health change
• Family’s health changes
• Jobs and employment change
• Income changes
• The cost of living changes
Since no retirement plan being perfect, and requiring regular changes, not having a plan is far worse and far more dangerous. Not having a plan is similar to starting out on a round-the-world trip without a map.
Take control of your future; get a retirement plan. Save early and save big.

A primary investing risk is the lack of realism for how long it will take to accumulate sufficient funds to stop working and begin the “golden years” of retirement.
